SR 99 George Washington Bridge

Owner:    Washington State Dept. of Transportation

General Contractor:  Liberty Maintenance

The Greater Seattle/Eastside Division worked with Liberty Maintenance & a team of subcontractors to complete Stage 2 – Repainting and Paving the SR 99 George Washington Memorial Bridge (more commonly known as the Aurora Bridge) in the summer of 2019.  In order to extend the life of the nearly 90-year-old bridge, crews scraped and repaved the driving surface of the bridge, repaired an expansion joint on the bridge deck and resealed six other expansion joints. This work was completed over four weekends, much less than the 10 weekend-long lane reductions allowed in the contract. Due to tough bridge compaction specifications and extremely strict equipment weight limits on this project, an extensive amount of planning and organization was necessary to ensure contract compliance. The work completed by Lakeside will help extend the life of this Seattle landmark, which also happens to be on the National Register of Historic Places. With our repaving project complete, residents traveling over the bridge now have a smoother commute.
