Our History
At Lakeside Industries, we are a family-owned and mission-driven company passionate about our culture. We have
worked hard to maintain a tight-knit community, dedicated to safety, customer experience, and quality. Coming from a
humble background in the hotel service industry, the Lee family built our company on what they knew best: being of
service to others. Our story starts in the 1950s:

1950s
1952: Rhoady Lee Jr. and his family purchased Lakeside Gravel Co., Inc, which operated aggregate and concrete sales operations in Bellevue and Issaquah, Washington

1960s
The Lees purchased Acme Paving in Redmond, WA in 1964, entering the asphalt paving business. In the same year, a heavy-civil construction company under the name Red-Samm Construction
Co was started. As Red-Samm grew, it operated in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Alaska, and Hawaii with offices in Redmond, WA and Juneau, AK.

1960s
Almost a decade later in 1964, The Lees purchased Acme Paving in Redmond, WA, entering the asphalt paving business. In the same year, a heavy-civil construction company under the name Red-Samm Construction Co was started. As Red-Samm grew, it operated in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Alaska, and Hawaii, with offices in Redmond, WA, and Juneau, AK.

1970s
The Lees then purchased Washington Asphalt Co., Inc. & Pacific Sand and Gravel Co in 1971. The two companies had asphalt plants in Seattle (Fremont), Everett, Issaquah, Woodinville, Lacey, Shelton, and Centralia, as well as two portable plants. They then acquired Marine Asphalt Co., Inc. in Anacortes & Oak Harbor in 1976, B&K Paving in Kelso in 1976, Joplin Paving in Monroe in 1978, and started Valley Paving in Bellevue and Twin Falls, ID, in 1979.
A few years later, in 1977, The Red-Samm Mining Co construction business and asphalt plants in southeast Alaska were sold.

1980s
Larry Darnell became President of Lakeside Industries in 1980. Acquisitions in the 1980s included Shotwell Paving in Port Angeles in 1982, Columbia River Paving in Vancouver, WA, in 1983, Columbia West in Portland, OR in 1983, and Interstate Asphalt in Aberdeen in 1984.

1990s
In 1990, Cadman Ready-Mix acquired ownership of all concrete operations in Issaquah and Bellevue.
In 1991, Lakeside Industries purchased Whatcom Builders in Bellingham. In 1995, Lakeside appointed Tim Lee as President and Larry Darnell as Vice Chairman of the Board.

2000s
In 2006, Mike Lee assumed the role of President, and Tim Lee became CEO.

2010s
In 2017, Whatcom Builders merged with Lakeside to form the Bellingham Division.

2020s
In 2020, Lakeside Industries appointed Jaime Lee as Vice President. In 2023, Lakeside acquired Watson Asphalt Paving Company.
As a company, we have an expansive history, and we are excited to continue making a positive impact on our Lakeside family and surrounding communities.
