Hurricane Ridge Project

In July 2020, our Olympic Peninsula Division worked with the Olympic National Park on a project to pave Hurricane Ridge. This project took 2 weeks from start to finish and included 1.6 miles of trail grading and paving. The project improved ADA accessibility on an approximately 20% grade. The remote nature and surrounding terrain were more challenging than most projects. Vertical drop offs in some areas made the path barely accessible with paving equipment and not accessible with dump trucks. Instead, the crew used track trucks to haul asphalt from the stockpile area at the bottom of the hill to the paver the top of the hill. The steep grade and switchbacks along the trail made for a stressful and complicated trip for the drivers, especially because there was no cell phone coverage.
